Greg & Sinuon Holz
Greg Holz was born in Menomonie, WI to Rev. Richard Holz and his wife Eunice Holz. Greg grew up in Littleton, CO where he never imagined that God would call him to live on the opposite side of the planet. He attended Concordia University in St. Paul, MN where he acquired his bachelor’s degree in Christian Outreach and graduated in 2006. After completing school God led Greg to the mission field to work with youth ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church in Battambang where God brought Sinuon in his life.
Sinuon was born in Thailand where her mother was working as a Khmer/Thai translator. She came back to Cambodia when she was eight years old and settled with her parents in Battambang. After settling in Battambang Sinuon’s relatives from America came back to Cambodia to plant Trinity Lutheran Church where God called Sinuon into a relationship with Him and would eventually introduce Sinuon to Greg.
After a year of service at Trinity Lutheran Church Greg and Sinuon became engaged and God called Greg back to America to seek a new opportunity to serve Him long-term in Cambodia.
After relentlessly searching for the right opportunity to return to Cambodia Greg in frustration typed in the words “missionary” and “Battambang” into Yahoo and at the top of the list was a page that had info about Kampuchea for Christ and the Battambang Trade School. On the homepage of the old Kampuchea for Christ page was a note from Rev. Setan Lee stating that it was God’s providence that brought Greg to the site. Upon calling the number listed on the site Rev. Setan Lee answered Greg’s call and had Greg come into the office to meet him only a few days later and within a month Greg had committed to work with TransformAsia with the youth in Battambang. Only later would Greg find out that the phone number was a seldom used number that Setan had for just that day decided to have forwarded to his cell phone.
Upon returning to Cambodia Greg worked with youth at Light of Love Church in Battambang by teaching youth ESL classes and by coaching 2 soccer teams for the church. Greg’s U12 team successfully won the local championship for their age group.
After serving 1 year with TransformAsia and after getting married, Greg and Sinuon came back to America in 2009 to work on Sinuon’s immigration papers.
Now God is opening up the door to return to Cambodia. Greg now is called to work as the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries in Cambodia. Greg will be working to develop a new college student ministry in Battambang while working with the other youth ministries of TransformAsia to train young leaders who can carry the Cambodian church forward and share the message of the Gospel with other young people around them. While Sinuon hopes to use her newly acquired skills as a barber to teach other young women to cut hair and have a useful job skill to support themselves while being a witness to future students.
Pray that God will bless Greg and Sinuon on the mission field. Pray that He will provide them the full support they require.
Please consider partnering with Greg and Sinuon in ministry
