Refined By Fire
In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
- 1 Peter 1:6-7
In November of 2011 a young glass artist from Eugene, OR decided to come out to Cambodia and teach some of the girls from TransformAsia to blow glass. Shag had previously heard Dr. Setan Lee speak at Church on the Ridge in Snoqualmie, WA and was so moved by his story that he asked what he could do to help. Setan asked Shag to teach the girls in Cambodia how to do what he does. Shag pulled together all the supplies, old glass torches, various tools, and whatever else he could think of and brought it all out to Cambodia where he would then teach for 2 months, during which time he would show the girls how to produce unique glass earrings and pendants.
He taught the girls to carefully adjust the flames and then to heat the glass to just the right temperature and stretch it. He showed them
how to create shapes and make the glass unique. But most importantly he showed them how to work the glass just right so that it would be strong and durable, how to work the glass in the fire so that it could be refined, beautiful, and strong. Now our girls are some of the only women in Cambodia who are producing unique glass art and jewelry! Every day up to 8 girls work with the torches to produce unique glass jewelry that can then be sold via the local tourist markets or can be brought to other countries for sale there.
Much like the jewelry the girls produce now, we too find out faith is being refined. Like a burning hot fire the trials of the world come at us and the Holy Spirit refines us so that we can be strong and beautiful tools by which we share the gospel message.
We ask that you please pray for this ministry. That we might find suppliers for our needs and places to sell the jewelry. This new ministry is a remarkable opportunity for our girls to produce a unique product to support themselves and for us to generate some revenue to also support the ministry.
We praise God that we are able to show these girls not only a unique trade skill, but we are also able to show them how God is able to provide for their lives and how there are so many people around the world who love them and want them to know about the Love of Christ! In this way we may be enabled to reach out and seek to refine others as we share God’s love and message to the people of Cambodia!
If you would like to know more about what the girls are doing or how you can acquire a pair of these unique earrings please contact us via the glass shop email.
If you would like to help please consider donating to the Women’s Ministries of TransformAsia or by helping us to get more glass sent over to Cambodia so they can continue to produce these products!
